Proposed Project Narrative:

Beginning with the transmitter building workshops I participated in in Helsinki in 2005,
inspired by the "if you see something say something" self-contained pirate radio station I helped fabricate with Alterazioni Video Collective at Location 1 in 2006, reminded once again by the free media hacking workshop I led with Jamie Allen at Eyebeam this Spring, and as a further commitment to the project of social music (but not really social music), I propose the following:

1) to fabricate a shared transmitter and receiver set, i.e. a one-watt transmitter (fm and tv?), sharing a power source with a cheap mp3 (or some other mediaplayer?) device attached to a small receiver as a dispatch or artist multiple for free103point9.

2) to produce an album's worth of social music (a dispatch), for the device (which couples as a repeater station)

3) to write an instruction set for the device, encouraging the uploading of content and shared (Radio 4x4 - type) performances.

Proposed Project Description:

I will consult with Jamie Allen and other helpful people on three design iterations of the transmitter/player/receiver hardware before my residency.

I will arrive with parts and spend three days building each device, respectively.

The fourth day I will test the devices and upon consultation with free103 staff and friends (via skype) will determine the successful model.

Days five and six will be spent researching in the transmission art library for content for the text, or instruction book.

Day seven, i will rest, ha ha. No, I hope to invite musical collaborators (to be determined in agreement with free103 staff) to record content for the dispatch.

The project will be fine-tuned (excuse the pun) elsewhere.

The free103point9 Airtime residency will be instrumental in the completion of this project for the following reasons:

1) It will afford me time away from my hectic life.
2) It will afford me the tools (soldering irons and research library)
3) It will afford me the community required to complete the project

Desired AIRtime Schedule:

My desired residency is a one week in either late July or Early August. I'm very flexible.

How will your work during AIRtime be presented on free103point9 Online Radio. Please specify audio, video or both.

Both Audio and Video.
